Plot Twists
Once again, we are going to spend four days on this chapter.
On DAY 15, you are to now change your physical workouts. Challenge yourself by either changing your exercises, reps, weight, or intensity. If you have been following along with Mike's Journal, you’ll soon see that on DAY 15 I will be switching to Supersets. If you’re doing a “Beginner” workout, feel free to try some of the suggested “Intermediate” workouts. If “Intermediate” try out an “Advanced” routine. If already working with “Advanced” then change one of the FITT variables (See Chapter 3.)
The Plot Twist is the mid-point. It is the moment where you begin to discover not everything is as seems. You will now deal with the reality of change.
In Campbell’s monomyth, there is an encounter with “Temptations” which may or may not apply to you. There are also encounters with the Goddess, or an understanding of how masculine and feminine energies are necessary. But in my view it really is a temptation of any sort which threatens to keep you away from completing your 30 Day Quest. Remember, it takes 21 days to form a new habit. You are halfway through the emotional commitment it takes to complete a worthwhile Quest. Even though the story might change, you are asked to fulfill your commitment by crossing the bridge from Conscious Incompetence to Conscious Competence. It’s the bridge where thoughts become physical reality as a result of you Emotional commitment.
Don’t be distracted. Here you will face the inevitability that you will in some ways change. And change is death from a certain perspective. Once the travelers in Star Wars reached their destination they found out the planet was destroyed. Dorothy and her companions were hunted by the Wicked Witch of the West until they met with the Wizard. However, their quest was not fulfilled as the Wizard took them from being the “Hunted” and made them the “Hunter” by demanding the broomstick of the Witch as payment for having their wishes granted.
In addition to changing your physical exercises, you will also revisit every one of your intentions from DAY 1. The Emotional Calibrations will also come into play as you apply each intention to the emotional calibration exercises you were introduced to last chapter.
A word of caution: Don’t get hung up on the higher emotions. If you feel satisfied with how you feel with each intention, move on. As mentioned in the opening chapter of this book, emotions like Joy, Peace and Enlightenment may be forms of “Love” just with slightly different subjective interpretations. If you’re personally not ready for these feelings, then go on to the next intention and work your way up again. If you finish then simply review all your intentions and check in with your progress. This progress should be measured by both tangible and observable results in addition to how you feel physically and emotionally. Again, I’ll repeat, the calibrations will be the key factor in mastering the emotional commitment of this Quest. Feel free to just check in with yourself and do “General Calibrations”, that is identify how you feel NOW as opposed to the feelings connected to your intentions, then move up the scale like you did in the last “Deserts” chapter.
